pans discriminatory ad

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers yesterday accused President Ma
Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) re-election campaign headquarters of discrimination in its
recent recruitment ad for people to distribute flyers.
DPP Legislator Tsai Huang-liang (蔡煌瑯) said the ad for customer service staff to
distribute flyers in Greater Taichung violated the Employment Services Act as it
set specific conditions, such as requiring those who wish to apply to be female
models who are slim and at least 167cm tall.
“Is the KMT recruiting campaign staff or holding a beauty pageant?” Tsai asked
at a press conference. “The ad seriously violates the Employment Services Act
(就業服務法) and the Gender Equality in Employment Act (性別工作平等法) and prosecutors
should look into the matter.”
Ma’s campaign spokesman Chu Kang-chen (朱康震) said the recruitment ad was not
placed by Ma’s re-election campaign headquarters, but by public relations and
advertising companies.
Chu said that the campaign headquarters would check with the companies on
whether they included such terms in the ad and “ask them to re-evaluate.”
