Debating
on ˇ§unification or independenceˇ¨ is meaningless; the prior condition
for the welfare of civilians on both sides is peace crossing
the Taiwan Strait
As long as the state of the cross-strait relationship is unclear, it is
useless to talk about unification or independence. Citizens of the
island is worried that, once the two sides are unified, they might lose
their freedom, private properties and cultural customs. If declared
independence, China might use this excuse to seize Taiwan with armed
forces! No one can guarantee peace on the Taiwan Strait. After Cheng
Chen-Kung ruled Taiwan for twenty-three years, The island was in the
hands of Ching emperors and later the Japanese. After fifty-years of Japanese
rein, KMT took Taiwan back and it has been another fifty years already.
Up until now, mainland still wants to take the island back by force; if
we are not cautious enough, we will never have a good night sleep ever
again.
