Dear Mr. President Clinton,
   Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
   Mrs. Madeleine Korbel Albright,
   Mr. Newt Gingrich,

No matter what's the "Three no's" refer to no U.S. support for Taiwan independence, no U.S. support for "Two Chinas" or "One China, one Taiwan" and no U.S. support for Taiwan's bid to enter international organizations that require sovereign statehood.

This is the routine speaking from Beijing, "I believe the U.S. side will make promises in an appropriate form, not to back independence for Taiwan or the island's desire to reject the united nations." PRC Foreign Ministry spokesman Tang Guoqiang said.

However, the severity of Taiwan is not only for Taiwan, but also defend the gate from Beijing to Washington.

An official of Beijing government said: "In the 1950s, you (United States) three times threatened nuclear strikes on China, and you could do that because we couldn't hit back. Now we can, so you are not going to threaten us again because, in the end, you care a lot more about Los Angeles than Taipei."

In the aftermath of the March 1996 crisis, U.S. intelligence gave increased attention to Chinese acquisitions.

Kilo-class submarines, Su-27 strike fighters, and especially soveremenny-class destroyers with SS-N-22 "Sunburn" missiles-that we designed by the Soviet Union to fight U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups.

Dissident Wei Jingsheng said: " I believed Clinton's visit to mainland China was wrong." "China wants to make a show and say; I can do whatever I want and if I want to make pressure on America, I just go ahead and do it."

Beijing, June 24

--- By abruptly turning three Radio Free Asia reporters from the PRC-U.S summit,

Beijing has prompted howls of protest and accusations of ham-fisted censorship.

The Hong Kong chief correspondent for Radio Free Asia said the timing of the ban surprised him.

"It's quite unique timing, because Beijing has proclaimed they're opening their door to the outside world and especially as President Clinton will be warmly welcomed by the government." said Zhu Xingqing. Saying that Taiwan is the key issue in the Clinton-Jiang talks is a distortion of the facts because the key issue is mainland China itself, good, friendly relations across the Taiwan Strait and a smooth national reunification really depend on Beijing attitude.

Beijing insisted that

A. Taiwan is part of the People's Republic of China or part of China

B. ROC government must be ruled by PRC's authority or province of China

C. Taiwan is not a sovereignty.

D. One country, two systems.

On above reasons, Beijing's insist is the ban of communication.

All citizens on the two sides want the nation to be reunited one day under working toward national reunification, while to the rulers in Beijing it is the "Taiwan problem" to Taipei, the problem is when the mainland will fully democratize itself.

How to use United States' policy to press Beijing go ahead with democracy is the key issue.

Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
