"Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
   Mr. Newt Gingrich,

One of Beida student asked the question, " 'We have seen that the Americans repeatedly are selling advanced weapons to Taiwan',""' so I have to ask, if China were to send its missile to Hawaii'," "' will the American people agree to such an act " ? ( June 29, 1998 )

The question is " wrong ". Taiwan is not the province of China. Taiwan is R.O.C.--- a sovereignty. R.O.C. has longer history than P.R.C.. As we have known the truth that Peking University need more and more education. It is existing in " distorted human right, and " degenerative democracy " because of communist China.

We learned the report from Clinton-Jiang meeting, in which have different train of thought is very clear'

A. Human right is given by authority.

B. Human right coincide with law.

C. Democracy is under control of authority and following the law.

Above would focus on Beijing side's though.

Clinton said, " If there were a lot of people demonstrating against me outside, suppose they were demonstrating over the question that the first gentleman asked me, suppose they said, ' oh, President Clinton is trying to interfere with the peaceful reunification of China and Taiwan, and he shouldn't be selling them any weapons whatever.' Well, I would try to find out what they were demonstrating against and then I would ask my host if they minded if I go over and talk to them, or if they would mind, if one or two people from the group of demonstrators could be brought to see me and they could say what is on their minds, and I could answer' They have helped me to understand how what I say is perceived by others - not just in China , but around the world'"

What Clinton's answer is understandable for Taiwan people. We must face Mainland China as regional superpower and is becoming a weighty member of the world community.

Taiwan should strive to prove its worth and underline the disparity with the mainland by doing more in the areas it excels - in democracy, the economy, and human rights.

Meanwhile; democracy and human rights would become the best importance for Beijing's lessons.

Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
