Dear¡@Mr. Trent Lott,
¡@¡@¡@Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland,

Taiwan¡¦s ¡§economic miracles¡¨ is responsible for creating the country¡¦s present ¡§environmental disaster¡¨.

Oct. 28, 2000 ---

Taiwan scrapped a partly-built nuclear power plant following years of heated debate and violent protest. Premier Chang Chun-hsiumg announced the cancellation of the controversial plant in a surprise move that has sparked fierce criticism from opposition parties. Chang highlighted Taiwan¡¦s inability to dispose of nuclear waste and the risk of nuclear accidents as the main reasons for the decision.

In our opinion; small island as Taiwan should announce its policy of non-nuclear power plant, because of too many cancerous disease decayed people¡¦s life for recent medical report.

Under Beijing¡¦s threat, Taiwanese people no where to go that the only way to long live in island is keeping its military balance, and maintaining cleaner island¡¦s contaminative wastes.

Advanced countries invested in developed or non-developed countries, the only reason is to protect countries inside and gained advantage outside.

The people of Taiwan are ¡§innocent¡¨ about environmental protection. Most people are more concerned about their personal economic situation, especially after the slump in the house in recent months.

Some reports said; the serious accident like meltdown of the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl in the Ukraine will never take place in Taiwan due to the different designs of reactors.

But we worried about the Beijing¡¦s M-weapons, it will target nuclear power plants also.

Taiwan¡¦s condition needs your concern.

Yours Sincerely,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
