Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
   Mr. Newt Gingrich,
   Mr. Trent Lott,

Taiwan must be more cautious in its dealings with mainland China as Beijing has intensified its effects to entice the island's population.

Nevertheless; the mainstream opinions of the Taiwan people regarding cross-strait exchanges included the following major characteristics:

A. Taiwan people think mainland China is not friendly toward Taiwan.

B. Taiwan people prefer to maintain the status quo regarding cross-strait exchanges.

C. Taiwan people do not support imminent declaration of independence or unification with mainland China.

D. Taiwan people hope for an improvement in cross-strait ties and a peaceful co-existence across the Taiwan Strait.

E. Taiwan people are opposed to Beijing's "one country, two systems" unification formula.

F. Taiwan people support the government's "no haste, be patient" policy governing local investment in the mainland.

G. Taiwan people anger at Beijing's "isolation" of Taiwan in the international community.

H. Taiwan people want to resume talks on technical issue that according to protect Taiwan business interest and travel safety in the mainland.

I. Taiwan people recognized that the most damaging of Washington's "three no's" is the one concerning Taiwan's membership in international organizations, especially because of the U.S. influential status as the world leader.

Therefore, we must clarify the misunderstanding and have also asked the U.S. to make a clarification the U.S. has reiterated that it will "support Taiwan's voice" in international organizations requiring statehood and its membership in those for which statehood is not required.

Taiwan is a political member in the world, we try our best to maintain democracy, freedom, and human rights.

So; we need your support!

Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
