Dear Mrs. Madeleine Korbel Albright,

Taipei Mayor Chen Shui-bian, who was forced out of office by the ruling KMT in weekend polls, is still seen as a front-runner for the 2000 presidential elections. "This is a major setback for Chen ' but he is still the most popular candidate and politician" said researcher at National Chengchi University, Chen, who has strong grass roots supports helped push through a raft of political reform on the island.

Beijing hope to conduct political negotiations with Taiwan under the premise of "one China" and put and official end to the state of hostility between the two side. Taipei has rejected political negotiations with Beijing, insisting that talks focus on practical issue such as fishing and the repatriation of criminals. Even if political negotiation with each other, Taiwan side must be strictly censored by Taiwan people.

Taiwan people have the right to decide how, when, and what's situation, under democratic development in communist China, in which would promote the peaceful reunification of mainland.

President Lee Ten-hui yesterday (Dec. 8, 1998) said the "New Taiwanese" concept is essential to establish a national consensus on the country's identity that would form the basics of the government's foreign policy and cross-strait policy. "Don't promote the Republic of Taiwan or independence for Taiwan as a matter of fact, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is an independent sovereign state, what we need here is a consensus" Lee added. "Had I not spoken out, foreign magazines might have criticized us as being ready to declare independence" Lee said.

Under mainland China has threatened to take military action against the island if Taiwan declares itself independent, Taiwan people lived with heavy pressure over Beijing's threat that made Taiwan reveal love and hate's ambivalence.

Beijing officer said "that Beijing is against anyone who advocated separation in Taiwan in the name of democracy"

In our view; Beijing has no right to interrupt the free wills of Taiwan people. Democratic country as Taiwan condition reunification should be decided by everyone of Taiwan people.

Taiwan need your support.

Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
