Dear Mr. Trent Lott,
Mr. Newt Gingrich,
The ROC Foreign Minister yesterday (Dec. 30, 1998) warned China
against stepping up its campaign to isolate the island, saying it
will only hinder reunification of the two sides. "China believe
when it succeeds in taking away all of our diplomatic allies, the
time will come for reunification" Jason Hu told a news conference.
"But I am afraid the more they push to leave us zero diplomatic
allies, it will only mean zero chance of reunification. Their suppression
only sparks antagonism among our people, and they must try to understand
how people fell about it".
Taipei lost four diplomatic allies to Beijing this year --- South
Africa, Central African Republic, Guinea Bissau and Tonga. But it
picked up one new ally, the Marshall Islands. Despite that gain,
it is left with just 27 allies, mostly small countries in Africa
and Central and South America.
Hu warned China against pursuing so-called "big
country diplomacy" by striking strategic alliances
with advanced nations while seeking their commitments to isolate
Taiwan.
"Despite their closer relations, western nations will never
ease their attacks on the mainland 's human rights violations"
Hu said. "As Washington and Beijing get closer to each other,
they will also realize the wide gaps between them".
In our view; Taiwan and China to establish a direct
link between their military forces is necessary. For
about the reports from Beijing Dec. 30 that mainland China said
Tokyo's controversial plan to launch a series of military satellites
and join the United States in researching theater missile defenses
could spark a dangerous arm
race. "China sincerely hopes Japan will strictly abide by a
defense policy limited to its own territory and coastal waters,
and adhere to a peaceful development path". Foreign Ministry
spokesman Zhu Bangzao was quoted by Xinhua News Agency as saying.
The meaning is saying that Tokyo's controversial plan
would defense Beijing's threat to Taiwan".
On the other hand; the leaders of mainland China always sick of
"psychosomatic reaction" in which feeling terror of losing
their "political position".
However; democratic mainland China is every Chinese's wish.
Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
