Dear Mr. Trent Lott,
Mr. Denny Hastert,
Mr. Kofi A. Annan,
The people of a democratic society are free to express their opinions,
and their leaders must listen carefully to what they say, or they
run the risk of being eliminated in popular elections. Beijing frequently
criticized ROC President Lee as a "separatist" and accuse
him of being the architect of Taiwan's "reaching out"
but Washington approve of Lee's contribution to local democratization
Bellocchi said.
Natale Bellocchi, former chairman and managing director of the
American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), said neither Washington nor
Beijing should expect future Taiwan leaders to abandon such a pursuit
since it is not a result of President Lee's personal aims.
Given that Taiwan's keen pursuit of an increased presence
in the international community is a consequence of its democratization.
Both Washington and Beijing should be reminded not to think that
Taiwan's future leader will be more their type, Bellocchi pointed
out.
Hong Kong, Jan. 10 ---
The Dalai Lama says his attempts to discuss Tibetan autonomy with
mainland Chinese officials have been stymied by Beijing's increasingly
hard-line attitude. He said he is willing to talk to
Beijing government anywhere, anytime, without preconditions.
Why the Beijing doesn't want to talk with "Dalai Lama"
? The answer is very simple, because of Tibet has ruled by Beijing
government. Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959 after an abortive revolt,
for Tibet from his exile headquarters in the northern India city
of Dharmsala. Dalai Lama, spirit leader of Tibetans, no weapons,
no any military power in our world.
There are few chances to change the position of Dalai Lama. We
hope the "justice" can be worked by democratic country
for supporting human rights. Democratic China is our wishes.
