Dear Mrs. Madeleine Korbel Albright,

United Nations, Feb. 25 ---
Over protests it was putting its domestic agenda ahead of international peace, mainland China lashed back at Macedonia for establishing ties with Taiwan and blocked peacekeepers from staying in the strategic Balkan country.

Hong Kong, Feb. 26 ---
Mainland China has made a "veiled threat" to share missile technology with third countries. If the United States builds a missile defense shield for its Asian allies, including Taiwan, the Financial Times reported Friday.

On the other side; Taipei yesterday (Feb. 26, 1999) blasted Beijing for its veto on continuing a U.N. peacekeeping in Macedonia, saying that it had humiliated the world body. "Mainland China's veto demonstrated its abuse of power and hegemonic mentality that undermines world peace" said Roy Wu, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In our views; Beijing's action is an outright insult to the U.N. and detrimental to the prospects of world peace. Beijing's threat not only in United Nations' issues, but also triggering the security of Asia and Washington's safe. Reacting to a report by the United States Defense Department, alleging that China's missile deployment could break through Taiwan's military defense before 2005.

On the other hand; most of Taiwan people is determined to pursue the referendum issue, stressing that during this year's reform process provisions for plebiscites need to be inserted into Taiwan's constitution.

Speaking at a forum at DPP headquarters yesterday, DPP legislators will have two proposals, one requests the National Assembly insert a provision for plebiscites into the constitution, while another will propose the legislature establish laws to legalize referendums.

Why do Taiwan people want to decide their future whether "reunification" or "independence"? The answer is that only a few people trust "communist China" and losing confidence in political negotiation about "peaceful reunification" of both sides. The threats that relating to Beijing government is Taiwan's ambivalence.

Democratic Taiwan needs your help. Please let "democracy speak".

Sincerely Yours,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
