First lady Chow Mei-ching (©P¬ü«C) has arrived in Moscow in her
capacity as the honorary director of the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre for its
performances in a Russian drama festival, government sources said yesterday.
Chow, who left Taipei on Tuesday in the company of seven Cloud Gate staff
members, received special courtesies at Frankfurt Airport during a transit stop,
the sources said.
A special bus ferried Chow and her entourage directly from the apron to a VIP
room during the wait for a flight to Moscow, sources said, adding that Chow also
received special courtesies while passing through immigration at Moscow airport,
where she was greeted by Maria Malkina, deputy managing director of the Chekhov
International Theater Festival, Cloud Gate dancers and Taiwan¡¦s representative
to Russia Jack Chen (³¯«T½å).
This is the second time Chow has served as Cloud Gate¡¦s honorary director on an
overseas performance engagement. She previously assumed the role early this year
when the troupe performed in the US and Canada in late January and early
February.
Chow was scheduled to visit the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory yesterday and to
attend Cloud Gate¡¦s performance in the evening, as well as an after-performance
cocktail reception.
During her stay, Chow will also meet with luminaries from Russia¡¦s arts and
cultural circles and will visit major cultural institutions and landmarks.
Chow is scheduled to wrap up her Moscow trip and return to Taipei on Sunday.
