Taiwan defeated Texas 9-1 to win the Junior League Baseball World Series
championship on Saturday in Michigan.
The Asia-Pacific champions from the Chung-Ching Junior Little League in Taipei
collected Taiwan¡¦s 18th title since 1992.
The championship game started out as a tight pitcher¡¦s duel, before Texas scored
a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
With batter Lin Tzu-wei (ªL¤l´Q) slapping the ball through the Texan infield, the
Taiwanese team managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning. They followed
up with three more runs in quick succession in the same inning to open up a
formidable 4-1 lead.
Entering the seventh inning, Taiwan secured victory by adding a further five
runs to the scoreboard.
So far, Taiwan¡¦s baseball teams have given exemplary performances this year,
earning a gold medal in the IBAF World Junior Baseball Championship earlier this
month and a title in the Junior League Baseball World Series.
Meanwhile, a team from Kaohsiung blanked Saudi Arabia 18-0 on Saturday in their
first match in the Little League World Series tournament in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania.
In the other game, Lucas Soper pitched a complete game and William Quito knocked

In the US section, Hamilton, Ohio, beat Toms River, New Jersey, 16-6, while
Columbus, Georgia, defeated Waipahu, Hawaii, 6-2 in a matchup of local leagues
that have World Series titles.
