over ‘no plot’ claim

Many netizens scoffed and wrote satirical responses after President Ma Ying-jeou
(馬英九) repeatedly insisted in a television interview on Tuesday that there was no
plot to oust Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平).
“I would rather believe in the existence of ghosts in this world, than to
believe in anything coming out of Ma’s mouth,” one netizen said of Ma’s claim.
Another wrote: “What a bunch of drivel by Ma. He is lying through his teeth.”
Ma gave an exclusive interview on Tuesday to the CtiTV (中天新聞) news channel,
which is owned by Tsai Eng-meng’s (蔡衍明) Want Want China Times Group.
In the interview, Ma repeatedly said: “There was no plot to oust Wang Jin-pyng...
Talk of a plot is nonsense, it has been promoted by the media. They conjured it
up out of nowhere.”
Ma said the whole matter was due to Wang “improperly seeking to influence the
judiciary,” before adding: “I have to defend the impartiality of the judicial
system, if not I am culpable and remiss in my responsibilities to the public.”
Ma also said it was his duty to explain the issue to the public, “because most
people do not know the facts.”
He said that his actions against Wang were all vaild in terms of the
Constitution.
“Between Wang and I, we have good communications and good interactions,” Ma
said.
Many netizens scoffed at the president’s claims.
“Taiwanese have seen through Ma’s actions and behavior. That is why Ma has such
low support of only 9.2 percent in public opinion polls. Stop with the
deception, you liar,” one wrote.
“When a person does things, heaven is watching. The TV is broadcasting your
words, but people are laughing at you. We laugh at you, ‘Emperor Ma,’ who is
incompetent and has no shame,” another wrote.
“When lies are repeated often enough, they become the truth. Ma believes his own
lies, clearly he has a severe mental illness,” a netizen going by the name of
Yasuo wrote.
“Ma said he is defending the impartiality of judicial system for the people.
What a joke. When did he ever have the public’s best interests at heart?
Everything he’s done has been contrary to the wishes of the people. He treats
the public as the enemy and has sought to oppress the majority of Taiwanese.
Please stop the lying, Ma, because nobody believes a word you say,” another
netizen going by the name Setio wrote.
Others referred to a speech Ma made back in 2006 when he was Taipei mayor in
which he rebuked then-president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁).
“Chen knows no shame, because he only has 18 percent support in public opinion
polls, but he still does not resign from the office. Is he waiting for people to
force him to resign?” Ma asked in the speech.
“Now Ma has less than 10 percent public support, yet he is shamelessly
admonishing other people, while never finding fault with himself. Ma does not
know when to go, but it’s time for him to resign,” another netizen wrote.
Also pointing out the president’s remarks about Chen in 2006, another netizen
asked: “Hey, Ma Ying-jeou, you only have 9.2 percent public support. So why do
you have no shame? Why are you not resigning?”
“Ma is such a proven liar you never know when he is actually telling the truth,”
a netizen surnamed Wu (吳) wrote.
