傳奇美大陸廠因為許文龍態度惹禍，其實，不只是許文龍，大陸工程董事長殷琪、宏碁集團董事長施振榮以及長榮集團董事長張榮發，都是被中共點名的挺扁台商，在去年國策顧問團成立後，中國不斷有打壓這四家企業的動作，這次奇美被中國下令關廠更是再度警告台商，想要在大陸做生意，就不要有台獨、親日的想法。
奇美董事長許文龍、大陸工程董事長殷琪、宏碁集團董事長施振榮以及長榮集團董事長張榮發，這四位台灣知名企業家去年挺扁的畫面深深烙印在中國高層的腦海中，不會輕易忘記，只是什麼時候有機會秋後算帳而已。
事實上，在去年大選過後，大陸工程董事長殷琪、奇美董事長許文龍、宏碁董事長施振榮和長榮董事長張榮發加入國策顧問團後，中國打壓的動作就不斷，首先是國台辦副主任李炳才嚴厲的對外表示，不允許台商在大陸搞經濟撈好處，又在台灣支持台獨，之後開始藉由查稅的名義調查這些挺扁企業在大陸的工廠，搞得殷琪、施振榮等人先後到大陸向北京政府表達善意，施振榮更是在北京透過國際媒體發 表不支持台獨的看法。
好不容易稍微安撫了中國的不滿，可是這並不代表中國原諒了這些挺扁台商，這次許文龍支持台灣論的言論再度惹惱了中國，大動作的下令要奇美關閉大陸廠，殺雞儆猴的意味十足，要台商們想在大陸做生意，就不要想搞政治。
現在中共雖然未對許文龍事件做勒令關廠的行動，在未來許先生在大陸的作法只有兩條路：（一）為了生意與中共妥協，於各方面做讓步，做更多的大陸投資工作。（二）逐漸撤廠，移到他國，重新開始。
美國有識之士，鑑於台灣政治內鬥而憂心，常有客觀的看法，由華盛頓郵報於 March 14, 2001 的一篇報導中，明白指出以色列、巴爾幹半島、北韓、哥倫比亞、非洲、蘇俄與台灣，會是未來相當火爆的熱點，其中台灣部份更談論到台灣防衛的力量與大陸的軍力相比，相當脆弱，美國必須立刻調整台海安全的政策。
文章中指出，中共繼其香港、澳門的回歸之後，加上柯林頓政府對中共悍然與無理的要求，一再做出讓步，已經使得中共當局認為其在亞洲的地位水漲船高，中 共提高軍備費用達18%之多，是台灣的三倍之譜，若小布希政府再忽視台灣的存在價值，不及時售予台灣先進武器與預警雷達系統，台灣會有立即性的危機，現在中共不斷警告華府對台軍售，而美國是否能堅持保台，會是關鍵性的決定。（英文稿請參照）
