The
adventurous Taiwanese
Four hundred years ago, mainlanders crossed the sea to immigrate to
Taiwan, most from Fukien. Later in Ming Dynasty, Cheng Chen-kung brought
people from central China to Taiwan, which marked the high tide of
immigration. Gradually new immigrants mixed with the earlier immigrants
and developed unique, adventurous, tolerant Taiwanese characteristics.
It is also very interesting how one can see a variety of customs and
hear various dialects on the small island.
Although the February 28 Incident caused Taiwanese to
discriminate against the later comers, but as time goes by, both sides
learn to live in peace and content together.
