Originally there was no conflict between people from different provinces, but suppression of the island's culture caused a big gap between them.
The Taiwanese dialect was originated
from the southern Fukien dialect, it is a profound language and has a history
longer than Mandarin. To forfeit it, see it as a lower-class dialect, is not
respecting it as the island's mainstream language. The indigenous people's
mother tongue was neglected even more. If our government officials paid more
respect to the island's culture in the past, there would not be strikes, protests
by members of the Democratic Progressive Party and/or the indigenous people
today. Now it is out of the question to counterattack mainland China, and
we have our own President of the Republic of China. For the future of all
Chinese, we must keep on striving.
