Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
I am very sorrow to disturb you again. If; please take a leisure time to read the
letter that is my best honor.
A series of formerly high ranking recently retired U.S. officials have swung through
Taipei over the past several months. Including former assistant Defense secretary Joseph
Nye and former Defense secretary William Perry. And it seems that all of them have come
for the same purpose, exhorting Taipei to resume talks with Beijing. But, unfortunately
that Taipei had not the major reason to refuse to conduct cross-strait talks.
Last week's Taipei visit by recently retired U.S. National Security adviser Anthong
Lake mentioned that the R.O.C. should abandon its bid to re-enter the United Nations, and
repeatedly declined comment on issue, such as whether the ROC was a sovereign, independent
state. U.S. interest in stability still don't take into account the ROC.'s international
status and the fact of its being a sovereign, independent state since 1912. As it means
Taiwan's diplomatic isolation would continue for years to come.
While this is true, Taipei knows it simply cannot afford to free itself from the
strait-jacket of U.S. cross-strait policy as the security and stability guaranteed by
"Big Brother" is still need.
U. S. is a free country for our democratic nation, isn't?
And so far for big brother to act as "Brother's protection".
The Dalai Lama accused mainland China of "cultural genocide". Communist
Chinese troops seizes control of Tibet in 1951, and the Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959
after the abortive uprising in Lhasa. However, China continues to face grave human rights
problems and other formidable challenges. After 30 years of providing 100,000 Tibetan of
exiles with a "second home", the Indian government should play a
"constructive and influential role" in solving the Tibet question.
We are all like to effort China mainland to or a democratic country whether Tibet or
Taiwan.
