OFFICE
OF THE
MINISTER FOR EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION,
TRAINING AND YOUTH AFFAIRS
- 6 JUN 1997
Dear Mr Yang
I refer to your recent letter to the Minister concerning your appreciation of Australia
as a destination for education and study. The Minister has asked me to reply on her
behalf.
International students are highly valued in Australia. They bring Australians an
insight into their way of life and promote improved relations between Australia and the
rest of the world.
The Government is committed to maintaining tolerance and racial harmony in Australia
and has recently provided funding to an anti-racism campaign to increase community
awareness of the need to oppose racism. For your information, I have attached also a copy
of the Parliamentary Statement on Racial Tolerance, which was made by the Prime Minister
on 30 October 1996 and which sets out clearly the Government's policy on these matters.
Thank you for raising this matter with the Minister.
