Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
Beijing, June 2
--- Communist China on Tuesday (June 2, 1998) ruled out any revision of the official
judgment on the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. Just two days before the ninth anniversary
of the killing of pro-democracy students.
"On the political disturbances in 1989, China's communist party and
government have made a correct conclusion." Beijing's Foreign Ministry
spokesman Zhu Bangzao said. "There's no necessity to make a reassessment
of this issue." He said in answer to a question on the crack down.
The pro-democracy demonstrations in the center of Beijing, which were broken up by
armed troops on the night of June 3 and June 4, are still labeled as a
"counter-revolutionary" by Beijing.
Mainland China has never given a death toll for the massacre in Beijing, but most
estimates put the number of dead in the hundreds.
According to dissident sources, another 3,000 people remain in jail in connection with
the demonstrations.
Each year, Beijing authorities mark the event with heavy security over the city and
routinely clamp down on dissents attempting to commemorate the event or those who were
killed.
But the threat of harassment did not stop protester Gao Hongming from
calling for the government to apologize to families of those killed during the June 4,
1989 crack down.
Hong Kong, June 2
--- Hong Kong's pro-democracy camp on Tuesday failed in its bid to put a pillar
depicting the June 4, 1989, Tiananmen Square blood bath on permanent display.
A anxious example happened to Taiwan's business people .
Taipei, June 2
--- Liu Sung-fan president of the legislative Yuan, stressed on Tuesday (June 2, 1998)
that he believes in the innocence of the four Taiwan business people who have been
arrested in mainland China on charges of espionage, and he urged the Beijing authorities
to investigate the case as soon as possible as well as to allow their families to visit
them.
For more than 40 years more; the separation between mainland China and Taiwan;
sometimes causes misunderstandings, which might be the case in the recent arrests, so
that; we urge the Beijing authorities to provide a secure investment environment for
Taiwan business people and that the incident will have a happy end.
However try to help, we have found that Beijing's hard stone can't be
broken by Taiwan's eggs.
After long time of talking and talking,' the joking conclusion is "nuclear
weapon" may be useful!
