Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
Mr.Newt Gingrich,
Mr. Trent Lott,
The U.S. President's nine-day five-city visit to mainland China can be described as a
" journey of idea ", because he tried to sow the seeds of human rights.
Individual freedom, free trade and environmental protection in a land where such issues
are often neglected. But after leaving Beijing, he went to Shanghai and while there he
stated, "We don't support independence for Taiwan and one China. We don't support
independence for Taiwan or two Chinas or one Taiwan and one China. We don't believe that
Taiwan should be a member in any organization for which statehood is a requirement."
Review the history of Taiwan. In 1972, at the time of the communique, advocating
independence of Taiwan was a crime in Taiwan. But as time passed, and the Republic of
China on Taiwan became a democracy and guaranteed free speech, talk of independence was no
longer a crime but became a widely felt advocacy.
It became part of the platform of the democratic progressive party. There are 74
political parties in the Republic of China on Taiwan.
Clinton has written a new chapter in U.S. foreign policy, a policy that must be giving
Jiang great joy and enhanced incentive for his obsession; reunification, peacefully or by
force.
Unfortunately; the three No's announcement just against the human right and democratic
spirit. Many who have watched quite carefully the proceedings of the China summit are
concerned about President Clinton's neglect in mentioning the freedom and democratic
achievements of the 21 million people of Taiwan. Much of the world is familiar with
Taiwan's economic achievements - "the Taiwan miracles" has became a model of
economic development for many. For more important, out recent movements toward
full-fledged democracy have won kudos from around the world.
On contrarily; Beijing has acquired a fleet of more than 40 Russian-made Su-27
fighters, believed to be one of the most advance in the world. Mainland China has also
reached an agreement with Russia on the establishment of Su-27 production lines. Communist
China's navy already operating a fleet or more than 100 submarines including four powered
by nuclear reactors has acquired two Russia-built kilo-class submarines and has orders for
two more.
Despite end of the cold war, at least in Asia, uncertainly concerning peace
and security has grown. Chinese military is no longer defense, it is offense!
From tenable conclusion; mainland China's arms buildup threatens Asia's
peace and stability.
