Dear Mr. Kofi A. Annan,
Mrs. Mary Robinson,
The conference, which opened in Taipei on Monday (Aug 3, 1998), has brought together
about 100 Chinese writers from 36 countries. Discussions during the five-day meeting will
center on Chinese culture and literature.
They condemned on Wednesday (Aug 5, 1998) the atrocities committed against Indonesia's
ethnic Chinese and urged Indonesian authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
In a joint statement, the Chinese writers gathered in Taipei for the third world
Chinese writers conference compared the persecution suffered by Indonesia's ethnic
Chinese-which manifested itself in the forms of beating ransacking, looting raping,
burning and killed--- to the cruelties committed by the Japanese Imperial Army and the
Nazi during World War II up to now; most of Japanese ignore their War II invasion.
On meeting; they lodged a written protest with the Indonesian government over the
plight to ethic Chinese in that country and urged the Indonesian government to take
effective and strong action to address it.
We think this is the just time. Let Japan and Indonesia to face the justice
and human right. Would you help the victims of riots? We appreciate your
working justice.
We like to see; that Japan formal apologize to WWII and pay compensation to
victims for the past error at Nanking massacre and Indonesia's government formal apologize
to the world's Chinese because of ethnic Chinese were killed, raped, looted,
murdered by May riots without protection.
Meanwhile, the mobs must be punished and government guarantee the safe and
security of ethnic Chinese.
All victims no more threatened again, and compensations are the finally
necessary.
From the view of the history, ethnic Chinese lived Indonesia for about 400 years;
they are Indonesia people.
