Dear Mr. Trent Lott,
Mr. Newt Gingrich,
The cultural difference between Taiwan and China are big. Taiwan's culture is one third
Japanese, one third Chinese, one third Chinese, one third American. In China it is
conservative, the essence of Chinese culture, but ruined during Mao's cultural revolution.
Recently; communist China have just started to accept elements of American culture.
Taiwan people must to learn enough political knowledge and candidates also. If not; we
still have no way of deciding our future. We hope both side of Chinese, have a plentiful
knowledge to prepare for "peaceful communication".
So; what Taipei must keep in mind is insisting on the principle of equality as this
principle can only make it possible for Taipei to negotiate with Beijing on an equal
footing and to reach agreements that are mutually acceptable. On the other hand; we
express our warm welcome to U.S. President Bill Clinton's reaffirmation of Washington's
commitment to the Republic of China on Taiwan.
The MOFA was responding to a recent Clinton letter to U.S. senator Robert G. Torricelli
(D-NJ) in which the President said the United States will support Taiwan's membership in
international organizations that do not require statehood and will also find appropriate
ways for Taiwan's voice to be heard in those that do.
The important view is:
" I will continue to develop our strong unofficial relations with Taiwan and to
assure Taiwan is provided the defensive weapons necessary for it to maintain a sufficient
self defense capability." Clinton said.
In our side; we; Taiwanese people's wills, is on spirit of democracy, that the country
to country at the equal footing, and to reach mutually negotiation with both side. Many
students asked me frequently; who is the big country ? Trouble-maker,
peace-maker or weapon-maker ? Taiwan, peace-maker of democratic country from learning the
style of United States, is a successful sovereignty and prosperous island in Asia. Why
must we do to downsize on facing communist China ?
God be with you, and Taiwan need your support.
