that police had subjected a Catholic priest to "sexual
torture" in order to make him reveal his contacts with underground
priests. Catholics in mainland are split between the
"official" church with four million followers, which is
recognized by the state and the clandestine church which is outlawed
by Beijing but recognized by Rome.
The clandestine church is forced to hold secret masses for its

An India-based Tibetan rights group has punished personal accounts
accusing Beijing of widespread torture in Tibet including the
use of electric shock aerial suspension and sexual assault.
The report related the experience of a 28-year-old nun Tenzin Choedon
who was sexually abused with electric batons. "First I was
hit with a stick all over my body, after five strikes, my body became
senseless. As I was coming back to my sense, I saw my fellow nuns
being abused with electric batons, in their anuses. They inserted
a stick into my vagina four times with full force and the stick
was rammed into my mouth" she said. "The personal accounts
of torture victims in this report represent only a fraction of the
real situation in Tibet".
