Dear Mr. Trent Lott,
        Mr. Denny Hastert,

"America is a society where everyone is free to express their own opinions, so such conflicts are natural, if we want to make China into a diverse and open society, we need a diverse and open democracy movement." Wang said.

Wang Dan, a former student leader, almost ten years after the Tiananmen Square democracy protests were crushed in a bloody military assault. Wang also said that China's new underground democratic party should be neither the focus of nor the first step for China's democratization.

He said the problems China face in its democratization are not a function of institutional policies, but a problem with the political culture. Wang said, "the future of Taiwan should be determined by its own people", but he still downplayed the political significance of such a statement and added the encouraging close Cross-Strait relations are still very important.

Wang was imprisoned after Chinese troops shot their way through Beijing to reach democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989, hundreds, if not thousands, of protesters died.

Vienna, March 28 ---
Mainland Chinese President Jaing Zemin reiterated Sunday his defense of Beijing's human rights record, an issue which continued to dog him on the final leg of a three-nation European tour. A small group of demonstrators chanted "Free Tibet" as the 71-year-old leader arrived for talks at the Hofburg former imperial place in Vienna, where Jiang met Austrian President Thomas Klestil.

Jiang, who has already traveled to Italy and Switzerland, said rights were linked to economic development among other factors, adding that western Europeans did not know enough about mainland China's situation to fully understand it. The main aim of Jiang's visit, on which he is accompanies by an 80-strong delegation, is to boost economic and political ties, but the rights issue, has followed him wherever he goes.

In democratic country, there are sharing protest with protect free speech is the principle of country's law.

In our views, Mr. Jiang doesn't know what's democracy.

Yours Sincerely,
Yang Hsu-Tung.
