Dear Mrs. Madeleine Korbel Albright,
We encourage the lady that, the wife of Malaysia jailed former politician Anwar Ibrahim
is launching a new multiracial electoral party to challenge Prime Minister Mahathir
Mohamad in the next general election, an aid said yesterday (March 31, 1999). Taking over
the ruins of the small group and reshaping it allowed Anwar's supports to bypass the
bureaucratic process of trying to register a new political party with the government.
The 46-year-old housewife has already announced that she is ready to take on Mahathir,
but she needs a political party to do so. A general election is not scheduled until April
2000, but many observers expect it to be held later this year.
On her last visit Thursday, more than 35,000 people trooped to a farming
village in the state of Kedah to listen to calls for citizens to bring down Mahathir
through the ballot box. Azi Zah's previous foray into the Prime Minister's
territory drew 25,000 people last month.
After Anwar was fired as deputy Prime Minister and arrested last September, he said his
wife would carry forward his campaign to reform politics in Malaysia which has been
dominated by Mahathir for 18 years.
In our views, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad want to be a really great men
must have a curious feeling that the greatness is not in them, but through them. And they
see something divine in every other man and are endlessly, incredibly merciful.
However, we lend support to Anwar's wife; Malaysia needs your help.
