The fall of Cheng Chen-Kung's rule

During Cheng Chen-Kung and his descendants, Cheng Jing and Cheng Ker-Shuang, their rule, there was a scholar named Chang Yun-Hua who was a major contributor of Taiwan’s civil administration. When Cheng Jing was in office, countless royal family members, feudal lords and civil and military officers from the Ming Dynasty crossed the strait and sought refuge in Taiwan. The presence of these learned and cultured people had created a rich atmosphere of civil education on the island. However, as Shy-Lung, Cheng Chen-Kung’s former general, betrayed Cheng and turned to the Ching government, he also aggressively proposed to the Emperor to take Taiwan back. They awaited until Cheng’s army became weak and they defeat them. Cheng Ker-Shuang and his civil and military officers surrendered; Ming Dynasty’s royal family members on the island hung themselves to death.  The Chengs’ twenty-three-years rein in Taiwan had then come to an end.
