Dear Mr. Vice President Al Gore,
"We believe that this is a senseless decision, we believe the decision to be wrong
and we very mush deplore the fact that the Security Council has not been able to play the
role that it ought to have played", he said. Fischer, who first met the U.N. chief
here in November said he told Annan that Germany was "deeply concerned about the
recent developments in the direction of unilateralism".
Fischer said he was referring to Beijing, when criticizing unilateralism.
United Nations, March 3 ---
Germany Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer erupted onto the U.N. scene on Wednesday, for
casting a veto that killed a U.N. mission, and denouncing unilateralism. Fischer bitterly
attacked Security Council permanent member mainland China for using its veto
to kill a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Macedonia, to protest that country's establishment
of diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
In our views; Germany is home to half a million Kurds holding Turkish passports. We
agree with Fischer's "concern".
In other reports; Brussels, March 4 ---
The European Union on Monday warned the United States and mainland China not to try and
conclude a bilateral deal over the terms of Beijing's entry to the "World Trade
Organization", "whilst the EU and the U.S. have always taken a particular
interest in the negotiation with China. It should not be forgotten that WTO accession
negotiations are a multilateral process" EU Trade
Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan said.
"No one party to the talks can determine the outcome on its own"
Sir Leon's statement, which came shortly after U.S. trade representative Charlene
Barshefsky had met senior mainland Chinese officials in Beijing. "An early agreement
between China and the United States on China's entry into the WTO is in compliance with
the interests of both countries" Premier Zhu said, before visit to Washington in
April.
Beijing is showing the focus on its importance in our world, in spite of Beijing's
styles are right or wrong.
